Breaking Free of Generational Curses

While there is much talk about this topic of generational curses, few seem to address some significant facts.

What are these “generational curses?” From the teaching I have heard it is believing that the miseries in our present life are due to curses invoked by previous generations. So there is deep searching to identify all the sins of our parents, grandparents, etc., to at least the 4th generation, if not the 2000th generation. Once these sins are identified, they then apply a series of remedies to “break the curses.”

There is a lot of activity, but significant results are few and far between.

This has created a cottage industry in previous generational analysis, books teaching this generational deception and supposedly getting free in week-long and week-end retreats and seminars.

It is very popular to blame others for the problems in our lives. Yet we are all promised to have troubles; it is how you respond to them that make the godly difference.

How to go over and list all their personal sins in their past up until now, is a wonder to me, much less my great grandmother’s. Not only that, but the cultural filters of our past means that we accept many sins as normal and right, and are not even aware of them. Add in the general scriptural illiteracy among Western Christians, and the task seems unprovable at best.

Remember the sins of lying, doubt, fear and unbelief have their part in the lake of fire and they usually do not have obvious outward expressions. Since these sins are just as deadly as murder and gluttony, who can keep a valid list? Yet this generational curse theology keeps being advertised as “the answer.”

Rev 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers (witchcraft), and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

There are generational problems and God has answers for us today that are biblical. First God addresses generational curses, or their misapplication that they are from God in Ezekiel 18.

Here are a few verses:

Ezek 18:1“The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying, 2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge? 3 As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel. 4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.”

To get the full measure of this please go and read the entire Chapter 18. This whole chapter debunks the recent teaching on generational curses. “The father’s sins have set the children’s teeth on edge,” is generational curses. Here the false claim is that the children, descendents, are suffering due to the curses of the sins of the fathers. God specifically says assigning your troubles to the sins of your fathers is misunderstanding God’s principles and does not apply.  God is not sending any generational curses.

I guess because the people of Israel has such trouble giving up generational curses and dealing with their own sin instead, God repeats the message in Ezek 33.

Jesus addressed generational curses by not assigning them.

John 9:2 “And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.”

Jesus said this birth defect was not the result of the sin of the man or his parents. So it was not a generational curse. Instead Jesus said that His job was to heal such and thereby be the light of the truth of God into the world.

In the Greek there is no period at the end of verse 4, this was added later. So it is just as accurate to read it this way, “…but that the works of God should be made manifest in him, 4 I must work the works of him that sent me….” Now Jesus is saying I found this problem and I must fix it to the will of God.

So there are no generational curses from God, and all attempts at generational curses are illegal before God. This is made clear in two major sections of the Bible, where people were complaining that the curse was coming on them due to the sins of their parents or ancestors.

Instead the message of the prophet is that there are generational blessings, where if they repented immediately of their own sins, they could break the curse here and now, yet they refused to acknowledge their own sins. And even if the current terrors came on others, they could live and prosper in the midst of them.

There are generational problems. There are cultures that have been in poverty for centuries. God is not doing this. If not God, how is the devil doing it? He does it by temporary and cultural sins. This is the process of making sin in any form an accepted part of your national heritage. The devil needs people to sin to keep his curses alive.

The same is true for us today. We may have inherited the cultural norms that allow and promote sin, but at any time we can repent and heal our land also.

2 Chron 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

That term “wicked ways” shows the heart of the problem. They had lost biblical truth and accepted as normal all kinds of sins, practices and attitudes. We call this “cultural sin.” This ranges from accepting a loss of gladness and joy in doing God’s commandments to keeping unforgiveness to idolatry.

For now in Jesus, your generation only goes to one generation in God. When you get born again, your generational line goes to one, God, then you, and there are no curses in His bloodline. Thus it is technically impossible for anyone to have a generational curse with God, but it is perfectly valid that you do have generational blessings to the same level Jesus has them.

But that is at the spiritual level and not at the soul level. You can command demons to be quiet, be bound and even to go, but you cannot immediately change the programing in a person’s heart, their “wicked ways.”

It is this evil or twisted mental programing that is the primary problem. If the mind is not renewed, the person will go back and do the same things again and again. And thus release demon-assignement curses again and again.

Casting out the demon to get mental relief and/or physical healing does not remove the mental programing. For that we are commanded to renew our minds into truth.

So the cure is at least three-fold:

1. Break the power of the devil and command them to go in the name of Jesus.

2. Engage in aggressive mind renewing into truth by seeking the Lord continually in the Scriptures to address the cultural and behavioral mind programing that leads to more sins.

3. Repeat above until freedom.

A curse is not a document in heaven. God cannot send curses as He already placed all the curses due us on Jesus. Instead it is a demon-assignment from:

a) Your own sin(s)

b) Other’s sin(s) [For example: if the captain of the ship runs it aground in a storm, similar to what happened to Paul in Acts 27-28, you will experience the effect of what he/she did. Life will be hard for you and the cure is to walk in Psalms 23 and 91, and bless the captain and all others until the situation gets better.]

c) Placed by witchcraft (amateur or professional)

The one that probably challenges most modern people is to think that sin is only personal. Thus item b) above is very strange to you. But if you were raised in a terrible home environment, you know exactly what that life can be like, under the curse of bad set of parents who curse you with abuse and evil programming. You did not pick your family, but you have to deal properly with whatever life throws at you.

In this ungodly family life you may be pressured by lots of demonic influences and active curses, and the answer is to work in authority with God in the name of Jesus, to get the demons quiet and then out.

Breaking a demon-assignment curse is very simple, and there are a few direct ways.

1)      Break the curse in the name of Jesus as all sins and curses are remitted by the blood of Jesus and healed in the stripes of Jesus.

2)      Take communion and judge that curse on Jesus and now you and all your household are healed by the stripes of Jesus.

3)      Confess you are a new creature in Christ Jesus and all things are new and no spiritual curse has any authority over you, and then aiteo command the devil to go in the name of Jesus.

NOTE: As with all things in God, if you are renewed in your mind like the early disciples, this may take only once or a few times, otherwise repeat while ingesting New Testament truth until freedom comes.

Now when you see symptoms you attribute to family or generational curses, or any other kind of curse, apply one of the three steps above. Here our goal is to get you free and moving in authority over the devil in the name of Jesus, because if you have been trained for a long time in the typical generational curse teaching, you have a lot of mind renewing to get done.

In  an era where we accept no personal responsibility for our lives, our families, our town and our country, this message takes some time in reprogramming.

You do not need to spend a lot of time in soul-searching and family history to define what is sin and sinful in your life, instead start attacking the devil with aiteo commands and ingesting truth.

So when you are aware of any symptoms, add to the three actions above prayers like this (words are not as important as your intent and that you know you are speaking for God),

“Devil, I break your power over me and my household. All curses I break now in the name of Jesus and devil, you and all your works go now, in the name of Jesus. I am in a new generation and I belong to God. So my life and all aspects of it, get like God wants, now, in the name of Jesus.”

Then start thanking the Lord per Phil 4:6-7. Repeat as necessary.

In this way you can attack any symptom or fear you attribute to a curse of any kind, generational or anything else. What you must know is that first, the curse of the law is greater than any human curse, and no curse is greater than the redemption we have in Jesus from any curse of the law.

Gal 3:13“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

After you have done this enough to believe by breaking out into instant thanksgiving when the topic comes up, consider the curses of others are broken in your life and now you have to deal with other issues. So instead of looking at generational curses, look first to your own sins or the impact of the sin of others on your life.

If your family was involved in any form or witchcraft, including the masons, they do keep family records, so you need to deal with that. On our website, there is an article on breaking demonic curses. Take a look at that and get those mason’s set free. Remember every attack by anyone on any Christian is a request from God to get both the perpetrator and the victim set free.

The power of the Gospel is that we are required to:

Matt 5:44“But I say unto you, Agape/love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.”

So I want to know who is attempting to curse me for my job is now clear.

I have the blessing of Abraham, and that includes:

Gen 12:2“And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: 3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”

So, just like everything else in God, you have to apply His word in faith to your situation for His Word to have power for you. The blessing of Abraham is even greater, God says He will do this (i.e., they will reap evil from their sowing evil on one of His) without you doing anything. If you believe God you will be having mercy on those who are the sure recipients of their evil sowing until they confess their sins and get set free.

So it is more correct to say that the generational curses are sins that people accept and even call normal from generation to generation. So maybe it is better to call them “generational lies.,”  or cultural sins. Stop sinning and the bondage and death of the curse will go.

There is also a scripture that says the Lord will give you double for what Satan takes, (but I don’t seem to find it now). The life of Job is a great example of this. There is another scripture that says the devil must pay seven times what he steals.

Prov 6:30 “Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; 31 but if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.”

How do you know you are believing this? Simple, when you see these truths and you break out into thanksgiving, praise and joy, you know you got the message. If not, start training your soul how to react to the Word of God and start thanking, praising and rejoicing.

James 1:2 “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations …”

Since obedience is better than sacrifice, start obeying and start rejoicing and the rest will come. And if it takes a while for the emotion of joy to come, know that you have been offended in your heart somewhere, so seek the Lord for who else to forgive, bless and help.

See OK, God, Now What? on a very effective way to do this in the “Ten Step Burn-It-Now Process.

Anybody know that scripture where God promises to bless double for any curse on you?

God Bless You and Yours, In the Name of Jesus!

  1. I have read Ezekiel chapters 18 and 33 and your comments about them. I don’t see or at least understand any references to generational curses.

Can you tell me what I am missing?

  2. Hi Faithman,
I am not sure that I understand your comment, so I will say this.

There are no generational curses from God. Ezek 18 and 33 tells us that no one can say the children’s teeth are set on edge by the father’s sins. This means the children live under the curse from God due to the father’s sins. So this is generational curse teaching. It means there is an active curse through the generations for the sins of the fathers. And that is what the people were saying in the time of Ezekiel.

God is very clear in refuting this generational curse teaching: Ezek 18:2-3

2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge? 3 As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.”

Those who teach generational curses from God use this proverb in Ezek 18, verse 2, and totally ignore verse 3. God clarifies it in the rest of this chapter.

Ezek 33 is talking in a similar manner that the people are being killed for their own sins, not the sins of their fathers. This again refutes all the current teaching about generational curses.

God clarified this in Ezek, there are no generational curses, but there are generational sins. Stop the sins, do right and the curse stops. The curse comes from the sins. All sins, known and unknown, have a curse, so this is nothing new.

You may not be able to control where you are born, but you can control how much of God’s blessing you and yours walk in by your righteous efforts.

There are 3 levels of problems that can be called generational, but they are not directly from or by God. When you get born again in Jesus your lineage goes from God to you, one generation.
    1) Cultural sins passed through families and community. Adultery, fornication, idolatry, bigotry or thievery are examples, and it releases the devil for curses. Stop sinning and the curse goes away.
    2) Living/being born in a land destroyed by curse such as a famine, war-torn or storm-ravaged area. Follow God to rebuild, and discover and repent of cultural sins.
    3) Generational witches/warlocks passing curses down from one generation to the next. This is active witchcraft. Break the curses in the name of Jesus, and get the witches/warlocks saved and the curses will stop. This is a prayer request from God: Bless them that curse you and pray for them that despitefully use you (Luke 6:28).

I hope this answered your question. Please let me know.

  3. After rereading your post, I see where I became confused. This part lead to that confusion:

    “Now when you see symptoms you attribute to family or generational curses, apply one of the three steps above.” {DCM: I revised the origonal article above to better address this confusion.}

It did not make sense to me that you apply steps pertaining to generational curses if you do not believe they exist. It may have just been something you did not intend to phrase as you did. I can see now that you do not teach that they exist.

In the spirit of disclosure, I want to tell you that I am currently preparing an argument against much of the current teaching regarding curses. It appears that we have some disagreements. I have spent considerable time researching the subject, and frankly I am trying to explore as many of the pro-curse arguments as I can. You are an intelligent person and I would like to hear what you have to say.

I now see that you do not lend credence to generational curses. I do not either. However, I am interested that you believe in generational sins. Do you mean by this that they are sins passed down to subsequent generations by some means other than normal familial cultural traits? In other words, some supernatural element is passing sin or allowing sin to pass from one generation to the next.

Based on what you said below I am not sure if it answers my last question or not:

“1) Cultural sins passed through families and community. Adultery, fornication, idolatry, bigotry or thievery are examples, and it releases the devil for curses. Stop sinning and the curse goes away.”

I am not sure of your point when you mention that it releases the devil for curses. I would be interested in knowing your scriptural basis for indicating that the devil can be involved with curses; if you mean that he can independently bring a curse.

    You said:

“2) Living/being born in a land destroyed by curse such as a famine, war-torn or storm-ravaged area. Follow God to rebuild, and discover and repent of cultural sins.”

I am not sure what you are saying here. Are you saying that a person can come under a curse simply because they were born in a specific geographic vicinity that is cursed? In addition, are you further saying that the way to break such a curse (on the person or on the land or both?) is to repent of cultural sins?

I would be very interested in learning of your scriptural basis for the above. That is the first time I have encountered that idea and it is interesting.

    Lastly, you said:

    3) Generational witches/warlocks passing curses down from one generation to the next. This is active witchcraft. Break the curses in the name of Jesus, and get the witches/warlocks saved and the curses will stop. This is a prayer request from God: Bless them that curse you and pray for them that despitefully use you (Luke 6:28).

I am assuming that your reference to Luke 6:28 was an additional comment not intended to be associated with your comments in the rest of the paragraph?

Continuing based on that assumption; I think that the rest of the paragraph is clear enough that I can say that there is no scriptural basis to support what you said. I know that there is this idea that the scripture teaches that there are such things as “familiar spirits” defined as those that allegedly are specific to a particular family. However, this is fallacious and is based solely on taking liberty with the word “familiar”; in other words because it sounds like “family”.

There is nothing in scripture that addresses the idea of witches or warlocks passing down curses from one generation to the other. Therefore, I have to assume you are basing this on extra-biblical evidence—something I reject. Am I mistaken about what you think?

I have to be honest I feel a little guilty now not having been more forthright about my research in my first comment. I hope that you will not take offence at that. You answers could be beneficial to me though. You will either help me see things your way or you will aid in buttressing my arguments. I have to be honest I suspect the latter. Although you have introduced a new idea or two, and you have put a new spin on some others, it appears that you are in the “curse camp” in which I am taking issue.

To be transparent of my positions they are as follows:

…….Only God can give, allow, or cause a curse.

…….There is no scriptural evidence that the devil can give or cause a curse.

…….There is no scriptural evidence that curses are passed down to subsequent generations.

…….There is no scriptural evidence that sins—other than the sinful Adamic nature—are passed down to subsequent generations.

…….There is no language—expressed or implied—in the Old Testament or New Testament that supports the idea of “breaking curses” in the manner in which it is framed by curse deliverance proponents.

…….There is no instance in scripture where a person has spoken or issued a curse—except as directed by God—where that curse has been fulfilled.

…….There is no single instance of “curse deliverance” demonstrated, expressly taught, or implied by Jesus or any of the Apostles.

…….Galatians 3:13 is accredited to us as individuals at the moment of salvation.

So those are my positions. If you feel so inclined, I would appreciate a discussion in which you attempt to tear down my arguments before I go to print.

    Thank you

  4. As long as your goal is to set people free and into the reality of the Kingdom of God, we are on the same program. But it is also apparent that you operate from a naturalistic world view. This view is not supported by the Bible and Jesus in particular.

You say so many things with many strange twists and turns I really do not know how to cover them all in a short response, but I will try to address the key points.

First we need to agree that the red-letter words of Jesus are the supreme court of the Bible. We learn more about the devil and his works from Jesus than any other single source. In fact, not only is Jesus the light of how Father God really is, but He also showed us what the source our troubles, anything that is not like heaven on earth right now, are and what to do about them. Or course I can only hit a few high points.

For example let us look at the healing miracle described in Luke 13:11-17. In this miracle Jesus attributes the infirmity or problem to the work of the devil. If you had taken this woman to a modern X-ray or CAT scan, you would see the bone problems and other effects of her crippling conditions. So the biology was real and measurable. The issue is Jesus said it is caused by the devil. While the biology is the physical part, the real cause, the root, according to Jesus, was the work of the devil.

In the language of “curse,” we could call this crippling effect a curse of the terrible suffering kind. And Jesus was upset that the religious leader(s) had let it go on for so long.

    Luke 13:11-17

11 And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.
12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13 And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.
14 And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.
15 The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?
17 And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.”

In verse 13 the crippled woman is described as having a spirit of infirmity. Then in verse 16 Jesus calls this spirit of infirmity the same as Satan. Jesus tells us this woman was crippled due to the work of the devil in a form called a “spirit,” or living evil being of the spirit world, who causes inifirmity. Here the word infirmity includes any form of weakness, sickness or debilitation. So the Jesus tells us that there are spirits of infirmity or sickness who produce sickness, disorders and suffering.

In verse 15 Jesus calls the religious leader who had not gotten this woman free earlier, any where in the past 18 years, a hypocrite. He sat in the seat of representing God as a true shepherd, yet did not get this woman healed.

Since God works by scientific laws, it is not unreasonble to extend this to the principle that Satan is involved in infirmity of any and all kinds. And that God’s religious leaders are responsible for getting these infirmities healed.

Now I know that much of what I am about to say will contradict what you have said in your previous comments. Before you find fault with every detail, consider this. With this understanding we have gotten people divinely healed for over 30 years. It may not be perfect, but it is very workable. As I pastor I prefer to preside over resurrections and healings than misery and funerals. With this teaching we have seen numerous people set free to love and serve God in power like Jesus promised.

MINISTRY OFFER: Up front, I offer, if at any time you request, ministry for you or your loved ones if you get into situations that your theology does not get answers from God. You may call it deception, but others call it, “Thank you, Jesus is now so real to me. I thank God for this healing/answer to prayer.”

WORLD VIEW PROBLEMS: So my comments will come from a world view that does miracles as described in Matt 10:8, Mark 16:15-20, Luke 9:2, 10:9 and Matt 28:18-20. Jesus said to disciple the nations into “ALL” He taught them, not just a few selected verses. If that is not your present, or even your heritage, please understand that you have strongholds built in your mind to keep you from exercising this command and heritage of believers.

Jesus explained: John 10:10 “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have zoe/life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” If it fits the description of “stealing, killing or destroying,” then that is the “thief” at work in either direct or indirect ways. We understand the thief is Satan.

Jesus puts Himself in opposition, at war with and on the mission to destroy any stealing, killing and destroying by the thief that is going on. And He does it by giving us zoe life.

While many attribute evil in this world to God, Jesus came to set that record straight by His very life and actions.

James said it this way: James 1:13 “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

And this initial temptation is to say that the temptation is from God. Or as I hear many say today, “God sent this evil on me to test me, to improve me, and to work out His salvation in my life.” Now many of these trials include sickness. Yet these same people will run to a doctor to fight this education process God has supposedly sent for their good. How can you learn or be improved if you keep fighting your teacher?

This deception is rampant in the Body of Christ and leads to a world view that lets many die in early and unhappy deaths, all the time blaming God for it. “God took xxxxxx.”

I can agree if you say, “The god of this world, Satan, the thief, took xxxx.” But I cannot say Father God did it because I am told, “Let no man say I am tempted of God.”

So the first action of the devil is to tempt us to either do evil or let evil happen. Thus we have sins of commission and sins of omission.

The next temptation of the devil, as seen starting in the Garden with Adam and Eve, it to attribute evil to God. This is what James is refuting. Let no one say this evil is from God. And Jesus says the thief comes only to “steal, kill and destroy.” So if you say, “The devil sent me this evil to get me to accuse God,” then you at least are saying biblical truth.

If your next statement is, “Jesus gave me His zoe life to defeat this devil and his works in my life,” then you are on the right track.

Many attribute their miseries in this life to “God testing or perfecting them.” This teaching calls James, and therefore Holy Spirit, a liar. I would rephrase James to say: “Let no man or woman say I am in trials, tribulations, testing or evil from God. It is not God testing me in any way. The test is from ultimately the devil, and the devil is my enemy, not God. Jesus has given me zoe life to destroy this temptation and I will do as He desires.” This is why Satan has earned the title of “Tempter.” God does not tempt to do evil, but Father God does tempt, persuade and entice us to do good to the level of Jesus.

James continues: James 1:16 “Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

So if it is stealing, killing or destroying, it is of the “thief,” aka, the devil. That pretty well includes all misery on the earth. Since this is what the devil comes to bring, the evidence of his work is “stealing, killing and destroying.” So if you find evidence of “stealing, killing or destroying” by man or nature, then you can be sure the devil is the one who instigated or brought it.

Note that Jesus states that He came to give us zoe life in abundance, in excess. Zoe life is a capability from God that we are to have so much of we can not run out of it no matter how much we give away. The purpose of this zoe life is to counter, destroy and heal these stealing, killing and destroying works of the devil.

Jesus’ answer for healing all these devil-works is for us to walk in zoe life like Jesus did and do what Jesus did to heal the effects of the devil on earth. Jesus came to give us zoe life, not just to go to heaven, but to use that zoe life to destroy the works of the devil and make heaven on earth in the here and now. The first efforts of this is seen in the book of Acts.

Jesus is the Prince, the Administrator, Source and Governor of Zoe Life – Acts 3:15. Since we are on the earth now and we are as He is, then we are to also administer this zoe life to remove and heal the effects of the thief’s stealing, killing and destroying.

CURSE: A curse is simply any form of stealing, killing or destroying operating in fast or slow forms. Each sin has multiple parts, some are on the physical earth and others are in the spirit realm. God articulated the basic law this way:

Gen 2:17 “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

This is called in Romans the Law of Sin and death. If you sin you will die.
Rom 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death.”

And that includes fast forms or slow forms, such as how long it took Adam to die or judgment to come on Israel in the Old Testament or cancer, thieves, bankruptcy, divorce or evil addictions. So death in fast and slow forms can be called a “curse.”

So one way for a person to release the debt of sin in a curse is to commit a sin. Since Rom 3:23 tells us that anything less than the glory of God continually is sin, then the fruit of sin is a curse – some form of stealing, killing and destroying.

Now death fits into the category of “stealing, killing and destroying,” i.e., the work of the “thief.” These are not works of God but the devil. We are to use the zoe life Jesus came to bring from God to heal these thief-works. Thus by default these thief-works cannot be from God, else Jesus would be commanding us to fight God, and that cannot happen. We are to use the Jesus-given zoe life to destroy the works of the devil – stealing, killing and destroying.

As the light of God, Jesus came to set the record straight on how Father God really is and Jesus did no “stealing, killing or destroying.” In fact Jesus did quite the opposite. All His miracles can be called demonstrations of what zoe life does.

God explained it this way back in Genesis at the recorded sin where Cain did not make proper sacrifice. Gen 4:7 “If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.”

That word “sin” as in “sin lieth at the door,” is better translated as punishment for sin, demon, evil spirit, or the devil.

Notice that this word, “sin” is personified as a living creature bent on doing only evil. The origonal language word, Strong’s OT 2403, closely fits an Arabic word meaning “jin” or demon, a spirit being who does evil.

For our culture, devil, a demon or the devil or Satan, best fits that description. So when Cain would not give up his sin, but kept it, he got a living creature to make him pay for his sin unless Cain could defeat and get control of this living evil being. The presence of an evil living creature bent on making you pay for your sins is called a “curse.” Thus this evil being will work to get you stolen/enslaved, killed, or destroyed, which is pretty much what happened to Cain.

The message is that if you sin, you invite, attract or involve the devil in some way to enforce a curse on you. God cannot sin and you cannot involve God in sin, but all sin is of the devil.

Deut 32:3 “Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 4 He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”
Hab 1:12 “Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. 13 Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?” Here “behold” means to see to become one with and in agreement with. God sees sin but is not one or in agreement with it.

Rom 9:14 “What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.”

James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

1 John 1:5 “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

So anything less than the glory of God is sin (Rom 3:23), or as John says: 1 John 5:17 “All unrighteousness is sin…”

In Gen 4:7 Cain is warned that because he sinned the devil will come to deliver a curse. And if Cain does not master this demon, the demon will master Cain. Which is what we see next where Cain operates in the devil and kills Abel. So Cain did what the demon came to do, deliver “stealing, killing and destroying.”

Here John confirms this, when you sin you are operating in and powered by the devil and not God. 1 John 3:8 “He that committeth sin is of (sourced in, powered by, operating in the spirit of) the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”

And since the wages of sin is “death,” and sin invokes a demon to dominate you, when you sin, you bring a curse on yourself. The curse of sin is any form of “stealing, killing and destroying.” And that curse is a demon working in and where he can until you are “stolen/enslaved, killed and/or destroyed.”

Or a God warns the Christians: Gal 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap zoe/life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Or in the language of “curse:” Gal 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption (CURSES – STEALING, KILLING AND DESTROYING); but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap zoe/life everlasting.”

God does not send curses and never did. The best He can do for now is limit what Satan can do, as seen in Job, until we do the right things to resolve the earthly part of sin.

You have to look at every OT message through the filter of Jesus and what is recorded of Him.
Heb 1:1 “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”

We call Heb 1:1 and 1:2 as the dividing line of dispensations. In the past, prior to Jesus, God spoke by the OT people in types and shadows, but has now clarified the message and corrected many errors in the speaking of Jesus.

Here is how Holy Spirit summarized all the miracles of Jesus: Acts 10:36 “The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37 that word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed (lorded over, in the control) of the devil; for God was with him.”

Jesus did what He commanded His disciples to do: heal the sick in the city, raise the dead, cast out demons, make the blind to see, restore maimed body parts, and cleanse the lepers as spiritual works of the “Peace of God.”

So if this is not your Gospel of “Peace,” then you missed it.

And this job continues to all believers: Rom 16:20 “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly (literal: as shattered glass). The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.”

Or as Jesus commanded: Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power (authority, pre-permission) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power (works, ability) of the enemy (Satan): and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

In essence Jesus commanded we continue the work summarized in Acts 10:38. Thus that should be the testimony of every believer.

What Jesus did in every healing and other good work was break the “curses” on the people and make them whole. That is He directed Holy Spirit to remove the demon(s) and heal the damage done.

And this is the will of God for all people. Remember, for our purpose a curse is any form of “stealing, killing and destroying.” And sickness, blindness, maimed, etc all fit this definition of works of the devil.

GENERATIONAL: So how do generational sins get passed on? By the training of our parents and culture. If it does not produce the glory of God, it is sin. And every miracle Jesus did was the glory of God, so we are to do similar miracles and even greater ones. This is really very simple.

And if you sin you will have a devil trying to lord over you in misery of some kind (a curse) and your job is to master it in the name of Jesus or it will master you. And that is the curse of sin.

    Consider these passages:
2 Cor 5:21 “For he (Father God) hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (Jesus).”

Gal 3:13 “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

By the cross Jesus was made a curse for us, so God has no curse to send on anybody. All the curse due us fell on Jesus, but as Jesus commanded in Luke 10:19 and Rom 16:20, we have to enforce that victory under our feet.

If we do not do it now, what we do not get done, Jesus will handle when He returns, but you will not get the crown of “good and faithful servant.”

And when you do what Jesus commanded, you will be destroying the “stealing, killing and destroying” works of the devil, or healing the damage done. And it looks pretty much like what is recorded in the book of Acts.

If you want to call an act of divine healing in the name of Jesus a healing or a curse removal and repair, well, that is up to you.

The basic sin of witchcraft is a sin of the soul that contacts the devil, knowingly or unknowlingly, to get power to to send demons to people to curse them, i.e., work some form of stealing, killing and destroying.

Witches: These are people who work with demons for power, abilities and to place demons (curses) on others. Usually the do it for hate and or money. Professional witches (females) and warlocks (males) are paid by others to inflict such curses.

If a witch decides to take on a cursing project, sending demons, they will stay at it until either you die, they die or their children/heirs will continue the cursing. Rather than go into more detail, I have an article on this in my CovenantPeaceMinistries/Articles page.

The generational curses of witchcraft have to do with:
-The legacy of passing on witchcraft skills to their seed/generations.
-The witches keep up the curse, keep assigning demons to work evil to other family members, after the target person dies.
-Witches keep up a curse through their heirs after the initial witch dies.
-The apparent “infection” of familiar spirits to keep witchcraft lore alive through the generations.

Right now in our ministry we are seeing divine manifestations in the name of Jesus in all these areas. It is part of our ministry as believers. Read our other blogs for more on this.

Essentially we follow the commands as summarized in Mark 16:15-20. We don’t do the miracles. Holy Spirit does them as the finger of God just like He did with Jesus.

While there are many details, we keep the message simple. You cannot bring the Kingdom of God unless you are doing what Jesus commanded us to be doing. Luke 11:20 “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.”

And in general the Body of Christ lives under this “curse” for our failure to operate in truth: 1 Cor 11:30 “For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.” This is a pretty good description of “stealing, killing and destroying,” and that is the devil having free reign in Christians.

Or in expanded form: 1 Cor 11:30 “For this cause (failure to take Holy Communion properly) many are weak (no or little strength in finances, relationship, body or mind) and sickly among you, and many sleep (in early death and/or hear hearts toward God).”

God is not sending curses, but by our failuire to apply the zoe life of God in Holy Communion we keep the evil seeds to harvest what we have sown or others are cursing us with.

So if your Communion services are not sources of divine healing, prosperity, wisdom and long life for your people, you are under the curse described in 1 Cor 11:30 and God does not like it. But in order to get out of this curse, we have to take Holy Communion properly.

And when you get Communion right, then divine healing and miracles will be your experience as it is with many others now on this planet.

God summarized this awful curse this way: Hos 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

You can debate where the sin is in this one. But the bottom line is that if you intend to remain in willful ignorance, you are giving yourself to the devil to “steal, kill and destroy” you. And leave it as a sad legacy for your children.

I could not deal with every point in your above comment, but I hope I addressed enough to explain this a little better.

In my opinion, if your article gets people set free of “stealing, killing and destroying” in thier lives by the finger of God, Holy Spirit, you are building the Kingdom of God. Other wise, consider a revision until you are actually doing these works we are commanded to do. Then please share with us how you did it.

We have been coworkers with God in doing these works of Jesus for the past 35 years. It is too late to tell us it is not true or cannot be done. We have tasted the wine, and it is good. It is too late to tell us there is no such thing. And it is way too late to tell those we helped that they did not see the hand of God in power.

If you want a more documented story of miracles from more recent times, I suggest you read “The God of Miracles” by H. Nissen.

Faithman’s response to the above was so negative and full of deception that I could not let it remain. It felt like I was dealing with John MacArthur jr, and his mind is in a less than helpful place. I did update my initial response to clarify some of his points.

It is a disservice to mankind to see a cripple and take away his crutch without getting him healed. That attitude of being right at the expense of the power of God is a disservice to God and mankind. If you have a more effective theology, go get them healed and then explain how your theology did it. Otherwise, seek God for more love so you will help the cripple and not make them fall down with no way to get back up.

We do not claim we have it perfectly right, but what we do does glorify God, His word and gets people free in such a way they give more glory to God.

1 Cor 2:4 “And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:5 that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”
