Problems with the book, Christ the Healer

Christ the Healer

In my opinion, “Christ the Healer,” is a great book, up until it starts to list why people do not get healed. Then it no longer matches the Bible. That is about 2/3 of the way through.

First it refutes many of the points made earlier in the book, and second it refutes many Scriptures made in the process of his explanations.

I personally discovered this years ago as I was studying healing. Then I looked up Scriptures that refuted all the reasons Rev. Bosworth gave for people not getting healed. This was long before I ever heard of John Lake or Curry Blake. So when Curry made the same point, I knew what Curry was talking about.

The amazing thing about spiritual truth is that if you believe a lie, it can stop you from getting healed by God. If that is your belief, then you must either replace that issue with truth, or satisfy the reason you think you should not be healed.

For example, John Lake pretty much believed what is in “Christ the Healer” on why a lack of healing results, as did most the people from about 1850-1960, and many still do as it is still a prevalent teaching in our day. But I do not think that E. W. Kenyon had this deception. The teaching on our being made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 5:21) is slowly correcting this error.

For example, John Lake was ministering healing to a man and they were not getting any results, which was highly unusual. So they sought the Lord and found out the man had stolen $5,000.  So they got the man to return the money and then his healing came.

The man also believed that if he had sin God would not heal him.  So the word of knowledge addressed both what the man and Lake believed. When the man returned the money, both Lake and the man had confidence that God would heal, and the man got healed.

It is confidence that you are ministering the will of God, that God hears you that releases God to heal. If you run into a problem, then you need to get your confidence back.

Lake preached sin can stop healing so the devil knew what Lake, and the man believed. That gave the devil the window to resist. Lake believed if there was a hindrance, then sin was involved. Thus the resolution of the theft solved the problem for both Lake and the man, but had no impact on God. But until then both the minister and the one sick limited God.

Law or sin consciousness preachers focus on outward sin like drunkenness, murder or wife-beating. Neither Lake nor the man considered fear and unbelief as sins, but they will send you to hell just as sure as murder or idolatry.

Rev 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Remember 1 Cor 10:14 tells us it is idolatry in Christians that causes us to doubt God and fail in trials. And instead of counting it all joy, most Christians show little joy in troubles.

When was the last time you heard anyone say, “Rejoice with me. We will have victory, but right now it looks so bad we will go under is just a few days. So let’s dance to get the victory!”

This deception of believing healing failure over sin is how your false beliefs can limit God. That is why it is often hard to get modern Western church-people healed unless the minister is prepared to deal with this. Then you can get them healed on your own effort (that is, not expecting any faith help on their part), but it is also a reason many church people lose their healing. The devil does come back, and they accept the problem again as they know they are somehow wrong with God. That is one of the reasons why Kenyon wrote the books he did, to try to deal with this.

Or as Curry Blake said, “I can get you healed, but I cannot keep you healed. For that you need gospel mind-renewing.”

In the new covenant God says He will not remember your sins and iniquities any more (Heb 8 and 10), but this false belief about sin says God does remember your sins to not heal you, and thus calls God a liar and the work of Jesus inadequate.

But, as Jesus said, “As your faith, so be it unto you.” Thus you do not get healed by prayer or Holy Communion because of lies or error you believe instead. And if the one ministering divine healing believes those same lies, they cannot get you healed either.

In this false teaching, this doctrine of devils, sin is the reason why one does not get healed, thus no sinner could ever pray the prayer of salvation until they went back through their entire life, recorded every sin, then confessed it. Then add to that those after generational curses, you would go back and do the same to the 4th, 10th or 10,000th generation, to confess and repent of all sins.

And no one could get healed of any sickness, or any prayer answered because it would not be by grace, in spite of your sins, but because you did the right works of confession and repentance to get healed. So how did the cripple from birth get healed at the Gate Beautiful in Acts 3?

Acts 3:12 “And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?

… 15 And (ye) killed the Prince (Administrator, Controller) of zoe/life (Jesus), whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 16 And his (Jesus’) name through faith in his (Jesus’) name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him (Jesus) hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.”

Peter explicitly states it was not any power he had or holiness, including confession of sins to the 10,000th generation, that got that man healed, but that man got healed by Peter’s faith in the name of Jesus as Lord.

Faith failure is failure to properly apply the propitiation of Jesus by the cross in the Mighty Work of Redemption as the Mighty Arm of God that is the basis for all healing and prayer answering of God, including Holy Communion working to make you prosperous, give divine healing, divine health, long happy and productive life, and a heart continually on fire for God to continually produce the glory of God like Jesus did.

This failure in Communion means you do not get the benefits God so eagerly desires and invested Jesus for you and yours. This faith failure means you do not get cursed by God when you take the Lord’s Table improperly, but you keep all the curses, oppressions or lordship of the devil you and yours came in with. And that includes when a minister administers divine healing to the sick and dying.

Then the next perverse question is, how many sins do you have to confess before you can get healed by God? Is it one big one, like stealing $5,000 (today it would be $50,000 or $500,000). Or one night drunk? Or watching one pornographic movie? Or not giving alms to beggars? Or not going to church one Sunday? Or maybe it is not one, but 10 sins? Just how many sins do you have to confess, repent of, reconcile and make restitution for to get divine healing to work?

Divine healing is so you can be so thankful to God you will do these godly and reconciling things gladly.

Since the same Greek word sozo is translated as both saved and healed, how many sins do you have to name before you can get saved, born again, much less healed? I love and cringe at this statement, “Stupid thinking keeps you stupid.”

While confession of sins is part of our responsibilities, it has nothing to do with getting divine healing as healing is based on grace in spite of your works, and on the work of God through Jesus. And Holy Communion works the same way for prosperity, divine healing, divine health, happy marriages, long happy life and a heart on fire for God like Jesus has.

Now you know why so few walk in the benefits of Holy Communion also. And why God gives this rebuke and lament:

1 Cor 11:30 “For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.”

And in expanded form:

1 Cor 11:30 “For this cause (failure to discern the work of Jesus in His in His propitiation, especially the breaking of His body for you) many are weak (have no strength in this world, lack of mental clarity, poverty, confusion, being a victim, awash with fear of all kinds, lack of Holy Spirit gifts functioning, divorce, wayward children, etc.) and sickly among you (your healing prayers or others do not work well), and many sleep (in early death and keep hard hearts toward God).”

Or again:

Failure in Communion means you to walk in the continual oppressions of the devil to experience all forms of hell on earth in fast and slow forms, because you fail to properly discern the Lord’s work is His body at the whipping post and on the cross.

And to make it worse, those same law and sin consciousness preachers also teach that everyone Jesus did heal had no sin, else they could not have been healed. So how did the Centurion’s servant, who was probably not a Jew, get healed?

The Only Standard is Jesus: Remember the standard of God for sinlessness, or perfection,  is Jesus, not John Lake or anyone else. If you are not just like Jesus 24 x 7 x life, then you are in sin, have sin and thus by this demonic teaching, cannot get divinely healed. And that includes all the people Jesus healed in His day, Paul healed in his day, and those I and others heal in our day. Everyone in the Bible except Father God, Jesus and Holy Spirit had sin!

Based on this false teaching no one can get divine healing since no one is yet perfect like Jesus all the time. Yet many do get divine healing, so what is going on? Simple, if you never heard this lie or you ignore it, you can get divine healing.

If you are like me, I have a copy of “Christ the Healer” in my library. The first part of the book is wonderful. The errors on lack of healing are part of the reason I wrote my books on healing and redemption.

If you look at those reasons for a lack of healing Bosworth lists, then everyone can find themselves in them. So the person looking to get healed does not get healed with a book designed to supposedly promote divine healing!

Most of the people I know of who got healed from that book, never did read the last part of it. But those that did read all of it, stay sick, or ignore the last part.

As one lady told me, “I read all that, but I know God loves me, so He will heal me because Jesus already healed me 2000 years ago.” She had some jumbled theology, but that lady got healed.

In my opinion, this book is the reason why so many churches preach divine healing, but see so little of it. It is easy to find why you should not get healed in this book. Thus you first get excited, and then find out you cannot be healed, “until…”

Jesus never told anyone to repent, go reconcile or be reconciled, forgive, get right with God, confess their sins, do penance, make restitution, pray some more, go help others, read the Bible or any other thing to get healed. Jesus never said that He could not heal until you learned your lesson. Yet this book says all this and more.

Now whose report will you believe?

If Jesus spent 3-6 hours a day, 1-4 all nights a week, and often arose  early in the morning for Scripture prayer, and Peter, James, Paul and other disciples did the same, why not you? So if you wonder where your answers from God are, now you know.

A Bible not devoured is like bags of seed stored away. The potential of God into the earth is there, but rarely a harvest is made. Jesus is the Seed. The only soil that matters is your heart.

The truly difficult thing is the consequences of not managing your thought life.
