What is My Journey in Faith Miracle Healing and Purgatory?

Are you in the yoke with Jesus or someone else?

Are you in the yoke with Jesus or someone else?

I was raised a Catholic in the South, so being a Catholic made me somewhat different. I went to Catholic kindergarten and elementary school up until about the 6th grade. Then I moved into the public school system. Being in a military town, relationships were somewhat fluid. I never noticed in public school that we went to a different church than others. There were so many protestant churches that I was not impressed that one had the truth over another.

Little boys can be very brutal in analysis. No one had the edge on miracles or raising the dead, so my church was not any better than the others. And the Catholic church had history on it’s side.

But in the Catholic Church I learned some valuable principles; one is that God did miracles. Even John Lake commented that he could get Catholics healed quicker over any other group. Second was that if you wanted to follow Jesus it would get you killed. We studied the lives of the apostles and saints. I got the message most of the “good ones” died as martyrs. So I learned the “real deal” had a real price. And a real payoff, the martyrs get a ride right into glory so it is absolutely the best way to go.

The third was long times of prayer.

We were taught that if we prayed little prayers they could be used to get people out of Purgatory. So I would go to bed at night asking the Lord things like, if my Dad (who was killed in Korea when I was 3 and I was the oldest of 3 boys) did not need the prayers, then use them for the one longest in, or the one soonest to come out. The prayers were short and each one had so many days off of time in purgatory. So I figured out which ones had the most time for the least effort, and said anywhere from 10 to a 100 almost every night.

Purgatory

The concept of Purgatory does not seem to be taught much in the Catholic Church today, and I have never heard it in a protestant church. It was one of those things over selling indulgences that fueled the Reformation. Indulgences were if you paid money now then the Church could grant you an “indulgence” that worked with God and you spent less time in Purgatory or got a full pass if you did or paid something special.

This was part of what Martin Luther wanted fixed and I believe rightly so. But the concept of Purgatory is that if you are not just like Jesus when you die then you burn in purgatory until the sin is burned out of your life and then you can go to heaven. Lots of sin meant long time in purgatory, and little sin meant less time. Purgatory had fire like Hell and you suffered until you “got right,” or the sin “purged” out of you.

Now if you die and are not thinking, speaking and acting just like Jesus it is a real problem. But if you go to Heaven that way, and are allowed to mingle in any way with other people or creatures, then you will simply make Heaven into Hell. And that is not an option else Heaven would not be Heaven where all is like and for God in every way. So God has to deal with that in some way.

And if you are ready then you can do healing miracles like Jesus did, and raise yourself from the dead at least once as you die for others. You will at least die a martyrs’ death because keeping you around is the worst thing the devil can think of.

Also we are absolutely told numerous times throughout the Bible that our lives here matter very much. The more you live like Jesus, then you get the eternal rewards of gold, silver and jewels in 1 Cor 3, and everything else is called wood, hay and stubble and is destroyed by fire on Judgment Day. This is bottom line salvation or sozo/saved.

1 Cor 3:10 “According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is. 14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be sozo/saved; yet so as by fire.”

So our lives and works very much matter in this life. If you have nothing that you and Jesus built together, one meaning of holy, then entering naked is still a wonderful salvation. But what rewards you do earn are of value to you and God forever? So the concept of purgatory is not found directly in the standard Bible, but is found in the Apocrypha. If you look at the story of Lazarus and the rich man, some would also argue the rich man was in purgatory (Luke 16).

From my perspective, if you are not just like Jesus when you die, this leaves several options:

1)      You die just like Jesus in full operation of Ephesians 4 and you have vast mountains of rewards and you have learned to hate wickedness and love righteousness. Heb 1:9 “Thou hast agape/loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” [To me Paul and John seem closest to this.]

2)      Any sin, less than Jesus you still defend and love when you die, means that your soul must be trained in the Day of Judgment and it is not a pleasant process until you learn: Heb 1:9 “Thou hast agape/loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” i.e., you are reprogrammed for what you did not get right in this life.

a.       And those parts of your life go up in smoke as the fire tests your wood, hay and stubble. And you do not have the gold, silver and jewels you could have had, but you will be reprogrammed to the level of Jesus.

Heb 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”

3)      Or you are treated like a computer program and when you die, that which is not like Jesus just goes and you are like a simple computer program with less capability. Thus you are as forever able as your right works, and you have lower capability and rank as those with more right works.

Matt 25:22 “He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents : behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

4)      All three apply after you die. Issues like little children and babies that die are sorted out by the God of Love.

As a child age 8-12 or so I went to bed every night praying for those in purgatory. So that was how my attitude of intercession got built. Today I spend more time in intercession in tongues, but I have written books on praying the Scriptures in intercession. My current view does not include helping those going through the above last 3 options.

But There is More Than Just Heaven-Bound

Bottom line, for those evangelists who are advertising “accept Jesus and go to Heaven” that is absolutely part of God’s message, but unless it is a deathbed conversion there is still a lot of ministry left to be done to reach our job of:

Eph 4:11 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 but speaking the truth in agape/ love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.”

Since that is the job of the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, if they do not get the job done on Earth, it still needs to be done. But since if nothing else, that scripture is a prophecy, there will be a group on Earth who fulfill it. And those who do not (minister and church member) fall short of the standard set by God, and that means when you die, you are not safe to let loose in Heaven as you are.

Now the difference between purgatory type intercessions, even if it is possible, and healing is that in intercession like that you do not see your answers (i.e., that person getting out of purgatory and going on to Heaven) or do not easily recognize them when they happen (saving a small girl in a typhoon on the other side of the world by your prayer). But in direct contact healing, you can see your results or lack thereof.

Divine Healing Miracles

We all like the instant where healing is immediate while you minister on the street (ad hoc) or in church, a meeting, a healing room or hospital visit. If you do not see an immediate result, if you stay at it you will see more (continued ministry like healing rooms or homes). This is what Dr. Lake did in his healing room and teaching ministry. The more than one prayer to the answer seems to fall short of the Jesus standard. One shot prayer runs less than 100% on the spot for most ministers.

Dr. Lake said he saw often 10-30% one-shot immediate healings. At times he was running +90%. He suspected that his success was a function of those who were interceding in tongues for him. Many of those he prayed for one time then got healed later within 3 to 30 days after the one prayer.

So if you are not aware, you may call a non-instant prayer a failure. Of course, if you are not careful, you may think this breaks faith and they do not get healed. Of if you stay in faith they will if you delivered enough zoe/life when you prayed. Since there is no meter handy to tell how much zoe you delivered, this takes attitude and looking at the Word of God and not the situation.

So my healing success journey was based on my perception of effectiveness and so 10-30% is sporadic enough to make you go, “Ok, I’ll pray, let’s see what happens.” And with that attitude you see very little results, immediate or later.

Now, if we have to and we have time, we pray for hours on one case and see them get out of the wheel chair, or the leg grow back. Still not like Jesus did it, but 16 hours to get one out of a wheelchair may not be your idea of efficiency, but the one who now walks loves it. That I use a dull axe means it takes me a lot more to do the job done, but the job does get done, IF I KEEP AT IT.  If you tire or get distracted half way through, then the evil tree does not come down, but you did some good and did not know it.

Catholic Charismatic Pentecostal Prayer Group

When I was around 26 I got baptized in Holy Spirit while reading a book. Then I joined a really wonderful Catholic Charismatic prayer group and started practicing the gifts of Holy Spirit. I say wonderful as they were more concerned with what the Bible said and not Catholic doctrine.

I cannot remember the first miracle I did, but I am sure it was casting out a demon. One of the first healings I recall was a baby who was teething. I prayed, the pain went away, the baby stopped crying. That lasted for a while and then the baby started crying again. I did not know how to fight through that like I do now.

Years passed and I struggled to follow the current “best” teaching and saw few results. I did seek to pray in tongues 1-2 hours a day and I feel that is what got me through. Not knowledge and understanding, but prayer.

Then we had a family member diagnosed with autism. That is when I started seeking the Lord in earnest in healing. I went back and, found Jay Snell, started reading E. W. Kenyon again, then discovered Dr. Lake, and then Curry Blake. That got me going on street ministry and divine healing miracle results started.

Now I preach a Gospel that fulfills Mark 16:

Mark 16:14 “Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be sozo/saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18.They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”

That means people who listen to me and believe the Gospel are out healing in divine miracles very quickly.

Some are Faster than Others – Does Empty Religion Really Hurt?

Now if a new convert is young (age 2 and up) or has a non-Christian background we can get them healing in an hour to a few days. If they are a spiritist or spiritual, former witch, warlock, witch doctor, guru, energy healers, intuitive, etc. then as they see the more powerful God, they again can go out and minister healing quickly. If it is a long time Christian (non-Catholic), then they are harder. If motivated to just “do it” like the Power and Love ministry, then they see a few miracles and often do not go further and are never “ready” or “right enough” to go do healing. Since healing is a function of “GO AND DO,” then they soon lose interest. If they go back to a regular church, they soon also “die.”

If they go on a mind renewing program and then lifestyle like we teach in OK, God, Now What? then they go and burn bright. If you do not keep renewed, most seem to “FALL AWAY.”

Me, I work at keeping my mind renewed and I listen to a lot of Curry Blake CDs in my car. He is one of the few that “call me up” continually that I can do this. I may listen to one CD for months. I am in no hurry. I know the biology and it takes time to work and I work it. I have had Curry tell me that my books are accurate, so the issue is not more truth; it is knowing the truth to doing it. Most other teaching makes me feel like I need something “extra” that I do not have and the “call up” is much less.

Still In the Yoke With Jesus = Miracles

Oh, and because I am doing audio books of my books, I listen a lot to me while I edit them. I make a rough version and use that to make my final printed version. I listen to each CD over and over. That is how I finish my books, I listen as I pray in tongues and find areas for improvement. I don’t pretend my books are perfect, but they all have months if not years of tongues over them.

Since healing is also an attitude of staying stirred up, my books stir me up and I see God do miracles. Right now where I live, I do not see others doing more than I am, but that is no guarantee. I am in competition with no one except myself and the next moment. I want to see Jesus live through me more. This may be a bad attitude, but at the rate I am going, I need to live at least 10,000 more years to make any progress.

As I have been working on these three books for the last several years, every spare moment is spent in doing them. Much of what I write is direct revelation and only the beginning of the understanding is there. So many times it gets better and better as I read and re-read the material over and over. By the time it has made it into the book, I have lived out what I write. Often I discover what I am doing is already in the book and I did not realize it.

When people want to debate, I may respond with, “Show me how what you are saying will help me heal people better, or walk in more agape/love.” Or “What miracle results is that teaching giving?” That usually stops the debate, but occasionally we do learn something useful to build the Kingdom.

So this is where I am on my still growing “journey.”

God is no respecter of persons. His ways apply to all, all the time. If you do not see God move, the problem is not on the “God” end.

We are destroyed, walk in failure, fear and confusion, by lack of knowledge and lies, not some administrative decision by God.

God is no respecter of persons. Do the right things and you will get the right results; do anything different and you will be unhappy sooner or later. Digital Universe.

Evil works inspired and powered by the devil are no match for the Living God, but they sure tempt fleshly leaky neurons, even in those spiritually righteous.

There are no wrong answers here, only seek more of Jesus who already paid for every failure we ever made, are now making, or will make. Since He was healed of it, so are you.

It will be shameful for you to show up on the Day of Judgment and see that every hardness of heart was already healed and waiting for you to do the right labour to get that hardness of heart healing already done in Jesus.

A Bible not devoured is like bags of seed stored away. The potential of God into the Earth is there, but never a harvest is made. Jesus is the Seed. The only soil that matters is your heart.

Keep Working the Word so God can Work!

God Bless You and Yours in the Name of Jesus to be more Noble in Him (Acts 17:11-12)

Jesus is Lord of Heaven and Earth!

Snared by Christian Truth without Love

Office Gossip

I have not studied the doctrines of denominations for what makes them different. As an outsider I see a few categories.

First is to understand the goal of Christianity. Here it is described:

Eph 4:11 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the epignosis/knowledge (operating as a master craftsman and able to teach others to become master craftsmen) of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15 but speaking the truth in agape/love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in agape/love.”

To simplify: the goal is to produce men and women who walk just like Jesus Christ and are able to lead others to do the same in agape/love. For this we need fully functioning apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers for as verse 13 says, “until we meet the goal.”

By the way if your theology says you cannot get there, then why do you need any of the 5 offices of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers?

Here is a rough grouping of groups the way I am seeing them today:

1)      Those where miracles have ceased and no man can meet the criteria of Ephesians 4. Since these groups exclude themselves from progress they also eliminate the full suite of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. At best they ascribe to pastors and teachers. They may or may not be strongly evangelical.

2)      Those who claim God does miracles but we seldom see them and you will not unless you are a “special” or “anointed” one. They typically have a history that includes power manifestations, but they are rare now. They typically are strongly evangelical, but not all.

3)      Those who do see miracles in the name of Jesus often and are often hard to position theologically. They often position themselves as strongly committed to Jesus, but do not like the limits of denominations.

4)      I seem to remember from a Barna study that almost ½ the Christians in America were unaffiliated with denominations (anyone remember the study or know the reference?). they are fed up with the whole “grouping” thing.

For many of the denominations out there, they started off in a fire of Holy Spirit power and then within a few years (10-150) got organized and the “TRUTH” became more important than the power of God.

Does anyone know of a group that obeys Gal 6 for those who do not agree with them?

Gal 6:1 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”

A fault is anything that is not just like Jesus, so the options are rather large. And included in this is anyone with any teaching, dogma or doctrine you do not agree with. So if you are walking in the end goal of “edifying ourselves in agape/love” then Gal 6:1 says to restore them. That is if you are indeed spiritual. If you are not you are fleshly and glory in your “being right” and not in getting truth with agape/love.

The big trap is to get good at being right and missing the agape/love of God (see the Ephesians in Rev 3). If you are spiritual you take every one who disagrees with you or you find fault with as either an opportunity to learn or a prayer assignment to get life for. If you are operating in the flesh, then you avoid them and set them “straight” at a distance.

If you know your history this is how Martin Luther got into starting a new denomination. Good thing for Martin that there were armies strong enough to defeat the armies the Catholic Church sent to kill him.

So which groups have regular ministry of prayer for those Christians they disagree with?

Here is the header for the Prayer List section from my book, The Prayer Cards:

Christian denominations, ministries, teachers, believers you disagree with: (Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ):

Oh, did you notice the penalty of seeing a fault and not correcting it in the Spirit? “considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” This says if you see fault and you do not get them fixed or do it wrong, you will be tempted to walk in the same sin the one in a “fault” does. [This is why Christian “fruit inspecting” is such a “hardening” job! This is usually gossip when the fault identified is not followed by the prayer of faith to set them free.]

So, see all the denominations we have now? Some 400 Christian groups I seem to recall. After a few years they get as “hard” and dogmatic as those they left and whatever miracles they had, are now gone. Seems to me they are walking in the “tempted” part.

Remember Gal 6 has this great warning.

Gal 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap zoe/life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

Seems to me if you start finding a lot of fault with other Christians, you then fall under this ancient curse:

Gen 12:3 “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee….” which is included in Gal 6:7-10.

Now you know that Gal 6:7-10 is talking about not paying your teachers who are growing you in Christ so all that free Internet material you are supporting them, right?

But it also applies to seeing those in “fault” in their theology and making them a lifelong prayer ministry until :

a)      They agree with your revelation of God of truth,

b)      You agree with them, or

c)       You both walk in greater truth.

For all of us seeking to be right, remember the truth is agape/love:

2 Thess 2:10 “And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the agape/love of the truth, that they might be sozo/saved.”

Of course if you do not preach in agape/love and are willing to lay down your life in love for them to get them free like Jesus did, it is hard to blame them for not accepting loveless truth.

After all did not Jesus say that we are to agape/love one another as He does?

James 5:19 “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20 let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”

Which is said again here:

1 John 5:13 “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal zoe/life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we aiteo/ask, we know that we have the aiteo/petitions that we aiteo/desired of him. 16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him zoe/life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.”

Wow, if you get the message of 1 John you will get zoe/life for those in any fault, including not walking in truth and agape/love.

And is summed in our purpose here:

John 13:34 “A new commandment I (Jesus) give unto you, That ye agape/love one another; as I have agape/loved you, that ye also agape/love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have agape/love one to another.”

The Catholic Church has the edge here. They call all those who disagree on the fine points of Christianity as “misguided brethren” and in some monasteries they pray for unity in the Body of Christ. I do not mean to defend the Catholic Church, but if you are doing something right, then you are doing something right. I can say that in other denominations I have not heard such acknowledgment or generosity.

By the way, I put the Catholic Church in the type 2 above in my first list. John G. Lake said he could be Catholics healed easier than any other denomination.

If you are the bearer of a new and better revelation, what are you doing to avoid the “being right” trap?

This may sound like bragging, but for years I have put Christian preachers I disagreed with (a lot or a little) on my prayer list for God’s grace and truth to overwhelm then with love and mercy.  I can say that I have seen some results over the years.

After all I am called to:

Matt 5:44 “But I say unto you, Agape/Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye agape/love them which agape/love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

So much for those who make martyrs and those with theological differences, we are to treat them the same-prayer in agape/love.

After all, if I pray for you to walk in truth, then God will do that. And if my truth needs adjustment, then He answers that also.  Prayer is only part, the real key is faith in God to perform His Word. If I focus on you getting my truth then God will get them the truth with less error than I walk in. Is it not good when God answers prayer?

So, do you add those preachers you agree with to your prayer list?

Concerning theological and other divisions, here is a Holy Spirit commentary for those fighting people and not the devils inspiring them:

James 4:1 “From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye aiteo/ask not. 3 Ye aiteo/ask, and receive not, because ye aiteo/ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts (of being right without agape/love). 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

6 “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

11 “Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12 “There is one lawgiver, who is able to sozo/save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?”

Did you know all these scriptures when you find fault with other Christians when they do not have the right theology as you do?

So how much time do you spend in interceding for truth in the Body of Christ?

Talk about a mindset change. How do I address error in a way as I speak to others that does not create the curse?

Gen 12:3 “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee….”

No wonder God gave this wonderful prayer:

Ps 141:3 “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. 4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. 5 Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.”

Oh yes, politics are included in this, especially if your opponent is a Christian.

Here is the header for building a prayer list from my book, The Prayer Cards:

Political leaders and others you disagree with:

(Matt 5:44 But I, Jesus, say unto you, Agape-Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.)

So who are you going to add to your prayer list? Include your friends and your enemies, and me I hope!

God Bless You and Yours in the Name of Jesus!

If Satan is a Goner, We Should be Selling Tickets!

snake chasing woman cartoon

I just saw an article in Christianity Today, “Satan’s a Goner, A Lesson from a Headless Snake,” by Carolyn Arends | posted 3/25/2011. http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2011/february/satansagoner.html

The article tells of a story where a missionary couple had a very large snake, bigger than a man, enter their house.  They ran outside, called a neighbor who came in and cut the snake’s head off. The snake’s headless body then proceeded to thrash for hours as it died. It crushed furniture and got blood everywhere while the couple stood outside helpless.

The message of the article was that in the same way, Satan is sure to be destroyed, but right now he makes a lot of damage. All of that is true, but the devil destroying and making a lot of damage while we stand by and watch the devil create havoc is not the will of God.

This is not funny; the message of this article is not the message of Jesus. Yes, the first part is absolutely true, that strong man has been bound.

Col 2:14 “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled (dethroned, crushed, bruised totally) principalities and powers (Satan and his minions), he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it (parading them in chains in a triumphant procession).”

1 Cor 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought (dethroned, crushed, bruised, destroyed): 7 but we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory.”

1 Peter 3:21 “…by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: 22 who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers [of God and the devil] being made subject unto him.”

Col 1:13 “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature.”

1 Cor 15:57 “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

And the devil has been commanded he must bow and obey at the name of Jesus.

Phil 2:8 “And being found in fashion as a man, he (Jesus) humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him (as evidenced by the Day of Pentecost 2000 years ago), and given him (Jesus) a name which is above every name: 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Acts 2:32 “This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.”

Acts 5:30 “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and aphesis/forgiveness (remission, removal, purging, obliteration and putting away) of sins. 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.”

Col 2:15 “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he (Jesus) made a shew of them (the devil and his evil empire) openly, triumphing over them in it.”

This is not just bound, but paraded as a slave in total victory unto triumph, which is the celebration after the victory.

Now you walking in triumph is NOT standing around and watching the devil trash your life, your family, your children, your neighborhood, your pastor, your prayer group, your church, your denomination, your associations, your community, your city, your state, your nation or your planet.

Jesus has defeated Satan and Satan’s end is assured, but we are not to stand around and watch his death throes in helplessness. Not if this statement of Jesus means what it says:

Luke 10:19 “Behold, I (Jesus) give unto you exousia/power (authority, commission and the resources of Heaven) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the dunamis/power (ability and works) of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.”

Here is a clear command and a job assignment. The church is absolutely not to stand outside and watch a headless devil destroy the Earth. Instead we are to tread – stomp and stomp, until all the devil’s works are destroyed.

Eph 6:11 “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

A better example of fighting the headless snake is the forces in Iraq where the head, Saddam Hussein, is gone but the battle still rages. At least we are fighting, and dying there, in an attempt to make lives better, and prevent if from coming to America (2012).

Jesus did the exact opposite of the message of this article. Instead of the article being a cry to be about our Father’s business, this message is to go sell tickets so we can watch the devil destroy our culture, families and our very own lives with a “Yes and Amen brother, praise God, I know the devil will be destroyed.” Just how many young children do we have to bury before we get mad enough to really read our Bibles?

Then why does my Bible say?

Rev 12:9 “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come soteria/salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they (the brethren) overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they agape/loved not their psuche/lives (souls) unto the death.”

Help me understand if I have the wrong interpretation of this passage. It seems to me the saints, us on Earth, did the overcoming of the devil that allowed that devil to be cast out and into the Earth, which I assume (maybe I am wrong) into Hell/Hades and/or the Lake of Fire.

So yes, Jesus defeated and bound the devil and yes we are to finish the job so we might learn to keep the attitude of Jesus against the works of the devil.

After all if just one person in eternity goes to the Lake of Fire and hears the devil’s lies, God is not going to go through this again. Each and every one will have the attitude of Jesus when this is done.

Heb 1:8 “But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast agape/loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

Heb 2:14 “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he (Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” [This is the Jesus-attitude]

Heb 3:1 “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling (to become just like Jesus), consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; 2 who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.”

Heb 8:8 “For finding fault with them (the Jews under the covenant of Moses), he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: 9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. 10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”

When this is done you will be safe and a blessing to let loose in Heaven or in the New Earth when Heaven finally comes to Earth, the footstool of God. Otherwise you will turn Heaven into Hell and not even be aware you are doing it. Our destiny is to be just like Jesus, a zao/living Word of God.

1 John 1:1 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of zoe/life; 2 (for the zoe/life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal zoe/life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3 that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was zoe/life; and the zoe/life was the light of men.”

Here is the Old Testament example of how God wanted the right attitudes developed:

Judg 3:1 “Now these are the nations which the Lord left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan; 2 only that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing thereof; 3 Namely, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entering in of Hamath. 4 And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the Lord, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.”

And if you have forgotten, our God is a God of War:

Ex 15:1 “Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the Lord, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. 2 The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. 3 The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name. 4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. 5 The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. 6 Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy. 7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble. 8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. 10 Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. 11 Who is like unto thee, O Lord, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12 Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them.”

And that is the attitude of our loving Father when a snake gets between Him and His child.

And we are to do the job:

Josh 10:24 “And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them. 25 And Joshua said unto them, Fear not, nor be dismayed, be strong and of good courage: for thus shall the Lord do to all your enemies against whom ye fight.”

This pretty well fits with the description of Jesus’ ministry:

Acts 10:34 “Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 but in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. 36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37 that word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

Now I don’t know, and I was not there, but I expect that the native who cut of the snake’s head in the missionary’s house had a big laugh. He knew the snake was big, that just like when you cut off the head of a chicken, it would thrash about until it died from either loss of blood or loss of oxygen due to the blood filling the lungs/throat.

Jesus specifically said He sent us to do exactly what He did:

John 20:21 “Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.”

And if you are confused about the meaning of peace that it means to sit around in delirious joy and unconcern while the devil destroys you and those you love lives, here is how Jesus preached PEACE!

Acts 10:36 “The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:) 37 that word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”

Why are police called PEACE OFFICERS? Here is what the God of Peace is doing now, if we will hear well enough to seek Him to obey:

Rom 16:20 “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly (as shattered glass). The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you [to will, think, be and do this just a Jesus did]. Amen.” That is the grace of the Lord Jesus, an agape/love warrior.

Praise God for the police, military and medicine. At least they have hated evil enough to be willing to die for it while the Church publishes incomplete articles like this.

My comment about selling tickets to watch Satan destroy lives is a bit late. Well we do it now already; it is called TV, movies and the Internet. So the article is entirely consistent with making money by showing how much damage the devil can do while we stand around and watch in passive and mindless entertainment, and we even give awards for it!

I just saw a nice little story with Ronald Reagan, our former President, in his movie days, where he was crippled and not once did anyone act like a disciple of Jesus and get him healed. Instead we watched Satan thrash about those actors lives and confirm there is no help in God.

Why did Paul have to rant at his disciple to get busy and stir himself up to be about God’s business?

2 Tim 1:6 “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of dunamis/power (the miracle-working ability of God where nothing is impossible), and of agape/love (like Jesus to not hold dear His own psuche/soul/life dear unto death), and of a sound mind (just like Jesus has).”

Is it because we have been desensitized by sin because we have not had the right kind of exhortation?

Heb 3:13 “But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened (made unpersuadable, uncaring, indifferent, unbelieving) through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold (possess, seize, retain) the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 while it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation [to indifference and accusing God while the devil runs rampant on your inheritance].”

Do you hear that? Holy Spirit is applying the lesson of the newly-redeemed-out of-the-hand-of-Pharaoh people’s failure to cross the river Jordan and kill giants. For their failure they died in the desert and did not get the promises of God–while God was in their midst ready to go.

He continues:

Heb 3:16 “For some, when they had heard, did provoke (Joshua and Caleb): howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. 17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not (unpersuadableness, bitterness against God, offended at God, calling God a liar and untrustworthy)? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief (unpersuadableness, bitterness against God, offended at God, calling God a liar and untrustworthy). 4 Let us therefore phobos/fear (knee knocking, stomach churning, teeth rattling terror), lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. 3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.”

And what was the rest of God for them? Cross the river and kill giants believing you have help from the God who melts mountains and humbled mighty Egypt in a war of gradual escalation.

And who are our supposed giants?

Eph 6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the dunamis/power (ability and wonder works) of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

And how do we do it?

2 Cor 10:3 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”

Now I have preached the truth, so where is the agape/love?

Rom 13:10Agape/love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore agape/love is the fulfilling of the law. 11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our soteria/salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

So what would Jesus do?

So here goes my way of agape/love for now:

A Prayer:

Father, in the name of Jesus I thank you this is already done. The Earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord, and there will be a generation who will hear the Gospel, and lay hands on the sick and they will recover, and they will cast out demons in the name of Jesus, and people will go free, and we will preach the Gospel of grace and peace so people will hear the agape/love of the truth in signs and wonders that destroy every oppression of the devil like Jesus did, and still does through us. So, devil, you working in Christianity Today in all the editors and leaders, get off NOW, in the name of Jesus! I command every born-again inner-man at Christianity

Today to rise up and hunger after the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that this kind of limited message never gets printed again. That the full Gospel that sets the lawful and unlawful captives free is preached in that magazine like Jesus did. That the author of this article will walk in a divine revelation how much you agape love her and want for her that she also walks in that divine power so that our faith rests not on the wisdom of men but on the dunamis power of God.

Father God, in the name of Jesus, set each one who reads this free into more agape love for You and Your truth in Jesus as the exact way You are. So devil, in the name of Jesus I take authority over you and in every one of these lies that exalt themselves against the true knowledge of God and command you, devil, and these lies to go, NOW, and to come down, and truth in God to rise in the name of Jesus. Devil, you stop hindering the Word of God and you get off of each one at Christianity Today, all the submitting and published authors and all those who read this magazine and all those who read this blog. Furthermore Lord God, send Your messengers to each one of us and our families, and get Your Word into us. Amen, in the name of Jesus!

Now for each one of us I pray:

Eph 1:17 That You, Father, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto each one of us the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You Father, and Jesus Christ our Lord: 18 the eyes of our understanding being enlightened; that we may know what is the hope of Your calling, Father God, and what the riches of the glory of Your, Father God, inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of Your power to usward who believe, according to the working of Your mighty power, 20 which You, Father, wrought in Christ, when You, Father God,  raised Jesus from the dead, and set Jesus at You own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 and hath put all things under Jesus’ feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church [of which we all are part], 23 which is Jesus’ body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. 2:1 “And [to know that] each one of us hath You, Father God, quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 wherein in time past we walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

4 “But You, Father God, who is rich in mercy, for Your great agape/love wherewith You agape/loved us, 5 even when we were dead in sins, You, Father, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are sozo/saved;) 6 and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 that in the ages to come You, Father, might shew the exceeding riches of Your grace in Your kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace are ye sozo/saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of You, Father God: 9 not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are Your workmanship, Father, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which You, Father God, hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Amen and Thank You, Father. In the name of Jesus, thank You!

We are destroyed, walk in failure, fear and confusion, by lack of knowledge and lies, not some administrative decision by God.

On Speaking in Tongues (Glossolalia) and the Benefits

Tongues - sign with words and dove

The Bible has a lot to say about tongues. It is one of the few topics where God has devoted a whole Bible chapter on it (1 Cor 14) so we can learn to operate it more effectively.

First of all, whatever tongues are, we are commanded to seek to speak in tongues.

1 Cor 12:31 “But covet earnestly the best gifts [all of them, whatever you need or can do now as well as the others you do not do now, all nine of them, including tongues]: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way [of agape/love so that this love is the driving factor that causes you to seek good for the current need by exercising the manifestations of Holy Spirit that helps to bring that good into manifestation for people’s good].”

1 Cor 14:1 “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts [all of them which includes unknown tongues], but rather that ye may prophesy.”

1 Cor 14:5 “I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

1 Cor 14:18 “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.”

1 Cor 14:39 “Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.”

There seem to be three basic types of tongues.

1.       Contemporary languages but never learned by the speaker

2.       Languages not contemporary or languages of angels

3.       Known or existing language tongue that is prayer or prophesy/utterances – this is hard to separate from prophecy

There appear to be two major places to speak them.

1.       Public in a meeting or with any number of other people

a.       Tongues + interpretation = prophesy

b.      Personal in a group, people can hear you,  and possibly disturbing others

2.       Private in personal prayer and worship

a.       No one else around – and you speak in tongues softly, medium or loud, hard and fast.

b.      In your mind/very softy under your breath so others do not know you are praying in tongues

There appear to a variety of manifestations.

1.       Words (range from in head, soft words/muttering to loud shouts)

2.       Song (in head and out loud at any volume)

3.       Praise, thanksgiving, rejoicing, prophesying and dancing

4.       With or without joy, laughter and dancing

5.       Ecstatic – being overcome and speaking almost as if forced to

6.       The words spoken or sung of those in a group all appear to be different

7.       When singing in tongues in a group, the melodies may be similar, yet the combined, melodies sound like a super choir

Christians have experienced some practices:

1.       Singing in a group like a choir (tongues the language of angels?)

2.       Waking up at night during sleep and speaking/singing in tongues

3.       Going to bed speaking in tongues

4.       Waking up at regular times speaking in tongues

5.       Praying in tongues while the leader speaks in English

6.       Interior urging to speak in tongues

Impact of tongues

1.       See immediate answer to prayer

2.       Do not see immediate answer to prayer

3.       Get a revelation or “word” to know what to do next (right away or later)

4.       Sense of increased strength, awareness, direction, energy or peace (right away or later).

ECSTATIC TONGUES

Ecstatic tongues are where the person loses some control or all control (robot mode). The person usually sings, dances, and prophesies (mostly praises to God) where they are overcome and seem not to have a choice. This ecstatic type is illustrated in the Old Testament. First with Saul before he became king and Samuel tells him:

1 Sam 10:5 “After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy: 6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man (act very differently).

Ecstatic episodes also saved David when Saul came looking to kill him.  Here God used this to save David by having his attackers be overcome of the spirit and prophesy (includes dancing, singing, and rejoicing).

1 Sam 19:20 “And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. 21 And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also. 22 Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah. 23 And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah. 24 And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?”

Saul sent three groups and then came himself. Here all 4 groups were overcome with ecstatic events that overcome them and controlled them so that they could no longer hunt for David. This appeared to be a very nice way to disable those who sought to kill David, but it did not change the attacker’s attitude toward God or man. As soon as the Spirit left they went back to looking for David to kill him. So this kind of event, with tongues, is a very low-level of spirituality or spiritual maturity as there is not much impact on the one who experience such an ecstatic state. Nor was it about the piety of the attackers, but more about God getting something done.

The type of tongues on the Day of Pentecost appears to have been the ecstatic type where the 120 were overcome and went out praising God. The people from many different lands heard their own language as they spoke in tongues. From the scriptures it could be that either the tongues was in the language of the hearer’s, or the hearers were gifted with interpretation to understand the tongues in their own languages. The inference is that those speaking did not all have the same tongue language. It could have been one or the other or a combination. Since then both kinds of events have been experienced by Christians.

Acts 2:4 “And they were all (120 per verse Act 1:15) filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.”

I have been speaking in tongues for some 35 years and I am not aware that I have ever done ecstatic tongues or that those hearing me heard it in their own language. There may have been many, but I never heard anyone telling me that I spoke and they understood the language. Others have reported both tongues that were in a modern language, but one they never learned. And others have reported that they understood what was being said and they at that time were not Christians, as the person spoke in tongues.

I think Paul included speaking and singing in tongues as part of praying in tongues.

1 Cor 14:14 “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”

One big message of 1 Cor 14 is that the tongues Paul is talking about are not ecstatic type and that in the church type events always under the control of the one speaking. Notice he says “I will pray,” and “I will sing.” The decision process is the same if you prayed or sang in your own language or with the spirit in tongues with the language of angels. In all cases here, it is a decision, not an unction or overwhelming desire.

1 Cor 14:32 “And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.”

But the inference is that those speaking in tongues or prophesying thought that they were ecstatic and they were not in control. So Paul is telling them not to let it get uncontrollable.

Now I have met people who were taught the only way to speak in tongues was when they were “overcome” and they saw no issue with interrupting a meeting and no interpretations was forthcoming. But I have never done that as I recall. The teaching in 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 focus on individual choice and resistance to being “overcome” when it is out-of-order.

PERSONAL TONGUES

Paul states that he in his personal time prayed in tongues (speak and sing) more that all the people in that Corinthian church. So he definitely prayed in tongues hours per day.  Consider, if there were 100 people and they prayed 15 minutes in church, then that is 1,500 minutes or about 25 hours. If there were 200 people, then that is about 50 hours, and if they prayed 30 minutes it would be 100 hours for 200 people. 25 hours over 7 days is 3.4 hours per day, and 100 hours is 14 hours a day just to match them.  And to do more than them, Paul would have to do a lot more to say “more than ye all.”  So between 2 and 15 hours a day would fit with Paul’s statement.

1 Cor 14:18 “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: 19 yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.”

I think it would be safe to say that if these numbers are even close, then tongues had a large part to do with Paul’s ministry.

1 Corinthians 14 talks about public tongues and their misuse. So tongues, while from God, are at your command for public or private use. For me it is usually a decision to pray in tongues. I may have had strong “unction” to pray in tongues, but I felt I could have said no. Since I am not aware of ever having said no, or being overcome, I am not sure what prevailed.

1 Cor 14:14 “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.”

In tongues it is Holy Spirit using you to speak the words He needs to get things done. Your understanding is not involved.

Dr. Andrew Newberg of the University of Pennsylvania has done scans of nuns in “ecstatic” tongue speaking, and he saw that the vocal control parts of the brain were not active. So the source of the words was not the typical source for regular speech.  The statement that your spirit or Holy Spirit, or in the case of demons speaking though you, the standard speech centers are not activated. He calls some of his findings and interpretations Neurotheology and using tools called neuro-imaging to see these effects. Also Dr. Newberg noted that in those ecstatic tongues did not produce the same kinds of scans in experienced Tibetan monks in meditation. So biblical tongues is different from Oriental meditation and comes from a different source. In tongues the source it not the person (as we understand it scientifically right now).

Note oriental meditation is a process of emptying the mind to get “insight.”

Biblical meditation is the exact opposite of oriental meditation, where instead of emptying your mind, you fill your mind with verses, chapter or whole books of the Bible, and repeat continually by decision.

What I do know is that unless I ask for interpretation, I usually do not know what I am saying in speaking or singing in tongues. Since much of my “tongue time” is also listening to good Bible teaching or Scripture, driving or less complicated tasks, my mind is usually not as involved. If I focus on the tongues they tend to get more intense, even louder if the situation allows. If I focus on what I am listening to in teaching, Scripture songs or Scripture, then I tend to speak tongues more in the background and therefore quieter and less forceful.

At times I have prayed in tongues all day and not listened to anything. When thinking of others, or looking at a prayer list, and praying in tongues, I seem to recall a greater sense of “connection” with those I am praying for. But I had to work on staying focused with a name list or situation list handy. I call this ministry or directed prayer tongues. I tend to stay on each item as feels right to me. So some are short, others longer, or even all day.

Many think tongues are either for private use only, or public use only. Both are valid. Here it seems that Paul is talking about a mix of public and private tongues.

1 Cor 14:2 “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men [public], but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries [public or private].”

1 Cor 14:4 “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself [public or private]; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church [public benefit from God]. 5 I would that ye all spake with tongues [private or public] …”

Here the purpose of tongues that is not prophesy is to edify the person speaking in tongues, and Paul (Holy Spirit) wants all to pray in tongues. This could include participation in public tongues and interpretation = prophesy for edification of others. Dr. Lake and Curry Blake say that speaking in personal tongues loud, hard and fast is a way to build spiritual power and confidence in God when combined with Scripture. I have also experienced this.

Here we are told that praying in the Spirit builds up our ability to believe or have confidence in God.

Jude 20 “But ye, agape/beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost (tongues), 21 keep yourselves in the agape/love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal zoe/life.”

So tongues combined with Scripture reading or listening can be a way to build faith for a more effective Christ-like walk.

Some Christians say I glow in the dark. That is what they say, but not everyone sees it, and neither do I.   I guess a 5th way for tongues is in church or prayer meetings where we may pray or sing in the Spirit, usually in a medium voice. I love to pray in tongues as I read the Bible and occasionally as I read good, biblically accurate books.

Benefits of tongues are they build me up in my most holy faith and open me to the love of God. Lots of praying in tongues increases my ability to believe the impossible things of God and so I get to do and see more miracles.

My physical tongue sometimes gets sore from lots of praying in tongues.  Spiritually when I do loud, hard and fast tongues, I can feel my spirit in my chest area rise up and it is like my spirit is stirred up. To get there usually takes me at least 5-20 minutes. Loud, hard and fast tongues also builds me up physically – it is work, especially if done while walking. So regular loud, hard and fast tongues for hours at a time, builds me up both spiritually and physically.

When I am at church or prayer meetings, I usually pray in tongues for the preacher silently or under my breath during the meeting. I see a variety of effects. Sometimes I see or am aware of nothing. The preachers may start to preach more Scripture with more accurate interpretations, various spiritual attacks are thwarted, or witches in the congregation will start to have “problems” with me. I keep blessing anyway. Often the godly spiritual power in the meeting increases. Other times it seems to incite the demons to frustration and manifestation. Then I direct my natural language and/or tongues to get the people free.

I do not typically do tongues and interpretations in a group setting. I do get interpretations, by asking if none from anyone else seems to be forthcoming, and I do prophesy also.

Another benefit of tongues is it lets me know that God is there. I sometimes wonder if it is really God or not. He usually persuades me by a variety of means. But if I keep to my regular goal of 2 hours a day I have/tolerate less questioning thoughts. For more spiritual power, I up it to more loud, hard and fast, and aim for 3-6 hours.

It seems to me that 2 hours of tongues strengthens me for 2-3 days in most peaceful or normal conditions. Other times, 2 hours is only “good” for about 15 minutes of intense situations.

I am always aware of what I am doing, and do not go into any “ecstatic modes.” I don’t look for them or avoid them. I guess if I asked for some, I would get them. When I ask, I do get interpretations of them and sometimes slip back and forth into English.

I have never been aware of tongue results in healing like commanding in English. I have seen people die while the whole group prayed for days in tongues without any aiteo commanding prayer. I know others do feel like they get “commanding” tongues and do see results.

I do experience songs of deliverance that seem to impact me and others I am specifically praying for. I may go from speaking to singing to English and back and forth. Thank you, Jack Hayford.

Ps 32:7 “Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.”

Often in a prayer battle, if one is leading I may join in with tongues rather than praises or echoing their commands. I am aware often that I am ministering to others at a distance as I pray in tongues. I once raised a dead baby that way and found out about it from the parents later, but as I became aware of the battle in the Spirit, I switched to English and commanded life and told death to go in the name of Jesus. That battle seemed to last about 15-30 minutes as I recall. But as I started in tongues and only finished in English, the English part was 5-10 minutes. So not sure what part tongues played in that battle except to stir me up and/or make me more aware.

I heard one person say tongues was like spiritual java, it works them up. I know I use tongues to get myself stirred up before I pray. John Lake said there were two elements in healing, faith and power. You get faith from the Word and power from tongues or praising God, affirmations, proclamations, etc. Dr. Lake said tongues made his ministry, so you know he prayed in tongues a lot, throughout the day, and often late into the night.

BENEFITS

The more tongues I do, the more bold I seem to be, especially in street ministry. Also if ministering to a large crowd, and the immediate miracles seem to slow down, I will take a break and do loud, hard and fast tongues, or even alternate between that and worshiping type tongues until I feel ready to go again. I may invite others in the crowd to do the same, but that is not always possible, so I depend on myself and not the crowd. This can take 3-20 minutes of tongues.

Unless I am “aiming” my tongues at a particular issue, I am simply letting Holy Spirit do “His thing,” and use me. Usually I feel like I am thanking or praising when I sing in tongues, but occasionally that has also turned to commanding type tongues.

Other results are in my business life where I have gone into impossible situations, and by praying in tongues, along with affirmation magnets, ended up doing the right things. This is daily tongues, not just one time events. So I would say the benefit was the Lord got me to do the right things, but I could not explain how I did it. The right things just came to me “naturally” without following some plan.

I do most of my praying in tongues in the car listening to good teaching. So whenever I get in my car or anyone else’s, I’ll start praying in tongues either out loud, if by myself, or silently if there are others.

The overall results is my life so far, now at age 65, which is pretty cool. I’ve done things people only dream about, my business results have rarely been equaled, and in ministry I have had some significant events, and I have a lot more coming. So while I live, and until the Lord comes, Holy Spirit tongues – private & public – will always be part of me.

Dr. John Lake stated that tongues was the making of his ministry. One key that he developed was tongues and interpretation for ministry. Lake would pray in tongues all day, so he probably got those 3-6 hours or more in a day. After a while, he would speak in tongues for a while, and then ask God for the interpretation, and he would use that as his basis for his sermons. This was either notes to follow, or major sections of text. I do similar for my books and other writings.

Lake suspected this was how the Apostle Paul developed his revelations of the work of redemption in Jesus. After all, Paul spoke in tongues, “more than ye all.” Others prophesy by first “stirring” themselves up with tongues, and then speaking. So the effect is one of tongues, interpretation and prophesy, all mixed together. I have some videos showing Tim Storey doing the same kind of thing in a healing ministry. So we are talking tongues first, then ministry, then periods of tongues during the ministry, all intermingled.

Early in his ministry, Oral Roberts would spend hours walking in Tulsa praying in tongues. As he did, God showed him many things, including  where and how to build his church and schools. For most of his ministry, whenever he had problems, issues or opportunity in his ministry, he would pray in tongues for long periods before making any decisions.

I do similar, but sometimes it is hard to say, “I’ll answer in a few days,” and then actually spend the time I need in tongues. Over the years I have proven to myself, a lack of tongues does not mean less troubles, but it does mean less godly responses in myself and others, and absolutely more better decisions, not to mention more love to others.

I consider tongues a vital part of my life, and definitely one of my spiritual disciplines. Another is using tongues to practice the presence of God and stirring myself in the dominion of Jesus, especially to dominate devil works to destroy them with the name of Jesus. Here this may be a combination of muttering various Scriptures and then moving back and forth into tongues as I do. As Curry Blake says, “It is not so much the words you pray, but you knowing you are connected to God continually for, with and in Him.”

Refreshing: Another benefit of tongues is refreshing and restoring of your soul. Smith Wigglesworth once said something like this, “I take a vacation every day as I speak in tongues until I am once again refreshed and encouraged.”

This is based on where Paul is explaining the value of Holy Spirit tongues:

1 Cor 14:21 “In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.”

And this is an excerpt from this Old Testament teaching on tongues.:

Isa 28:11 “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.”

This suggests that failure to speak in tongues on a regular basis leads to spiritual overload, frustration and poor decisions. Many pray for refreshing while God has placed it in our hands – oraissedr tongues.

We are destroyed, walk in failure, fear and confusion, by lack of knowledge and lies, not some administrative decision by God. As Jesus said we will know the truth if we stay in His word, then any problem is a shortage of grace and truth. We already have all the power there is in Holy Spirit in us, the issue is getting into enough agreement in Him with grace and truth so He can do the good He so desires to do through you.

God is no respecter of persons. His ways are like the laws of science.

How to Mark Your Bible for Effective Spiritual Growth

Bible Study

Here is an exercise for you to increase your awareness of what we have in Christ. We are told:

Philemon 6 “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual [energized, powerful, operative to bringing Heaven to Earth] by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.”

What this tells me is that if I want to see and experience results with God, I need to know to a deep level what I already have in Christ by His great work and what He is doing now. That little preposition “in” from “in you in Christ” means what is in a fixed position as a permanent condition of place, time or state.

So not what I am going to have, but what I have now. If nothing else, this will make my prayer and study time a lot more efficient. I will not bother praying for what I already have, nor will I study certain things from the wrong perspective. I will study as an “owner” and not a “maybe someday hoper.”

The corollary is also true, my lack of effective power is a result of not acknowledging, so it changes my life, what I already have in Christ.  This acknowledging includes the word abiding.

As Jesus promised:

John 15:7 “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall aiteo/ask (demand, require and expect as due by covenant promise) what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”

As I recall the thing that made the difference in the life of Hudson Taylor and forming the China Inland Mission was when he finally decided that he was in Christ and to start abiding, making that a permanent and pleasant abode of his heart.

Then Hudson’s continual confession became:

John 15:4 “Abide in me (Jesus), and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me [by faith in my great work of the 50 days from the Last Supper, the cross, resurrection and sending forth Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost], he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.”

Whether our works burn or are purified on the Day of Judgment is up to us. We are to do the abiding.  Who is going to be successful accusing God on THAT Day?

In a flash of inspiration I saw a way to start this “acknowledging of every good thing that is in me in Christ,” was to take a Bible highlighter (that does not bleed through the Bible pages) and mark everything we already have in Christ.

For example I highlighted most of Ephesians chapter 1 down to verse 15. These are things I have. I may not have anyone praying for me and no one may have heard how I am so great at loving others, so those parts did not get highlighted. Then I highlighted the rest of the chapter this way – see the bold parts.

Eph 1:15 “Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, 16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, 20 which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 and hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

Here are some of what I have in these verses.

  • I have a calling that is filled with hope (the joyful expectation of coming good); God has a calling for me that fills Him with hope (the joyful expectation of coming good).
  • God has an inheritance in me. He gets something out of me by the great work of Jesus as the Mighty Arm of God who did not fail, and this something make Him very excited (included in the meaning of biblical hope).
  • He paid for it and He will get it. I may not know of it, or understand any of it, but He has it in me and I have it in Him.
  • And God exercised this great and awesome power when He raised Jesus from the dead and it is towards me also for good.
  • I am given Jesus to be my Head as He is head over all the Body of Christ as a gift from God for me. So Jesus as my head is a gift for me to use from God for God.
  • Somehow I am now part of how Jesus is going to fill all of creation because I am a member of the Body of Christ.
  • Whether I know or understand these things or use these awesome things properly, I got them from God in Christ now.

And I have them forever, first because some may not be delivered until after the Day of Judgment,  and because” Rom 11:29 “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Yes, that is another verse that got underlined.

When Job said this he did not have the full story:

Job 1:21 “And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

It is clear from Job 1 and 2 that God did none of the taking. The one who did all the taking was the devil. So Rom 11:29 stands and I can stand in it.

I started at Romans because, while there are things promised that I have in the Gospels, I  could not see myself selecting out special words of Jesus. I figured you take them all as they are. Nor could I do many in Acts, so I started with Romans to Revelation. And I highlighted about one-third to one-half of most of those letters!

Now when I open that Bible I am not so much working on deep theological issues and the nature of sin in the world or the Christian, but I am obeying Philemon 6 so I can make the manner of my life a reflection of the power of God by knowing what I already have in Christ before I worry about how to renew my mind or grow in Christian maturity.

This marked up NIV New Testament happens to be the Bible that I keep in my car. Whenever I minister, I often take it with me. Or when I am taking a ministry team somewhere I will ask that someone read only the highlighted text as we ride. Sure seems to quiet a lot of theological debate.

When we I am with my wife shopping, I take this Bible with me, and read or just thumb though it to remind myself of what I already have in Christ. Not what I am working on in growing in Christ, but what I have forever in Him already. I bet if I did the same to one of those tiny New Testament-Psalms-Proverbs versions I would carry it even more often.

This is not the Bible I usually study from, or underline and mark up. This is my “make your Christian life effective” Bible. I tend to treat it as a special gift from God to be shared. I really love to watch people’ eyes as their minds start to process as they just look at all those highlighted verses!  A few go, “Wow!”

Got a Bible to try this with? Only highlight those things that you absolutely have in Christ. I think it is better to err on the side of less rather than too much. As this changes your thinking and gives more clarity, you can always underline more.

God is no respecter of persons. His ways apply to all, all the time. If you do not see God move, the problem is not on the “God” end.

We are destroyed, walk in failure, fear and confusion, by lack of knowledge and lies, not some administrative decision by God.
